Instructions (Writing) - Banana & Caramel Milkshake

Today, for writing instructions we got to choose something (like a recipe) to write the instructions on how to make it. Then we could share it with a friend so that they could make it later next week at school. I researched a couple of websites and found out how to make a 'banana and caramel milkshake' with butterscotch sauce and I shared it with Mia. I got the recipe from the Chelsea Winter website.

Fiji - Languages

On Monday, we started languages. We are learning Fijian and we started off by creating a presentation with information on it about the country 'Fiji'. We had to include things like greetings, languages they speak in Fiji, religion, animals, population, climate, number of islands, what the 2 main islands are called and cities and towns in the country. I worked with Mia and Iris to complete the presentation. 

Rep Netball

On Sunday, 2 of the rep teams travelled to play in a netball tournament. We had 9 players in our team all together. 

I played mostly WD (wing defence) but also got to play WA (wing attack) for a bit. 

Our first game was against Buller. In the end, we beat them by about 5 goals. That meant we got to go through to the semi-finals where we versed our other rep team. At the start, it was quite a close game however in the end we lost by around 9 goals, so we didn't get to go through to the finals. 

At the end, we all got awarded with certificates, drinks, chocolate and lollipops from our coach. 

Proboscis Monkey - Reagan & Mia

For writing this week, we had to choose a type of monkey to write about. We were able to get into pairs if we wanted to, so I paired up with Mia. We had to include things like where they live, what they eat, their characteristics, apperances and what their name means. We had to include photos and could also include videos. Once we had finished our writing, we got to present it (like on a google slide). 

We decided to present ours like  a safari/tour guide scene. 

Production - The Amazing Adventures Of Superstan

This week is a big week for many of the year 5, 6, 7 and 8 students at our school as we our performing the show (production). The show we are performing is called 'The Amazing Adventures Of Superstan' by Craig Hawes. We have been practising for many weeks and we finally get to perform it! On Sunday we had a dress rehearsal, as well as one on Tuesday for the reviewer and one yesterday for a nearby school. Today is the first performance, with the second performance tomorrow and the last performance on Saturday. After the last performance we have a party to celebrate all of the hard work over the last weeks/term. The show is a comedy and very entertaining! 

Wearable Arts

This year Totara is participating in 'Wearable Arts'. Every person in Totara gets to get into groups of 3 or 4 and create a wearable arts costume. This year the theme is 'Future Focus with West Coast flavour'. I am in a group with Mia and Jazmine. We have decided on designing our project on honey/bees. We will be making the majority of our outfit at the High School in the tech classes. Before we start creating our outfit, we have to research and create a detailed plan.

Reading - Availl

This week for reading we have been doing 'Availl'. 'Availl' is a comprehension programme where you get to watch a movie and do several activities relating to the subtitles while watching the movie. The movie we watched was 'Hoot'. We did the activity 'Surprise Subtitles' twice and the activity 'Take a dictionary to the movies' once. For the dictionary activity we had to get into groups of 5. My favourite activity was the 'Surprise Subtitles'.
