Technology - Cooking

On Wednesday at Technology we made Weet-Bix Slice. It was quite funny that we made that as I had made it in the weekend. I worked with Aimee and I found this very very fun.  Our teacher is Mrs Waugh.
She then set us a task........the school has been given a lot of Weet-Bix so we had to loo up on the computers something that we want to make next week but it has to include Weet-Bix.

Aimee and I went onto the Weet-Bix website to find some recipes. We then agreed on making a banana mango smoothie and since it only took 5mins to make we then agreed to also make these vegetable balls.

Here is the recipe to the Weet-Bix Slice if you would like to make it at home.

Ingredients
    150g butter, melted
    4 Weetbix (crushed)
    1/2 cup White Sugar
    1 cup flour
    1 Tbsp cocoa powder
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 drop vanilla essence

    Icing
    1 1/2 cups Icing Sugar
    1/2 cup dessicated coconut
    1 tsp cocoa powder
    25g butter
    Hot water to mix
Method
Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl and make a well in the middle. Add the melted butter and vanilla essence. Mix together, then press into a slice tin.
Bake at 180°C for 10 mins only. Ice while hot/warm and cut into squares.

    Icing
Put first three ingredients into a bowl, add the butter. Slowly add enough hot water to melt butter, until it's a smooth, spreadable icing.

Spread over slice while hot then cut into squares once cooled a little.

Numeracy - BEDMAS

This week for BEDMAS in the Number Ninjas we were focusing on BEDMAS/Integers. I found this quite fun to do. At the start I found this a bit tricky however eventually I found it easier.

Miss Power then gave us the task to create a presentation/demonstration about something you have learned in maths. So, Kaede and I decided to make a video using iMovie explaining how to solve BEDMAS equations. I found this task very fun to do!!

Art Soiree - Tie Dye T-Shirts

In Totara for the Art Soiree we are tie dying white t-shirts. At our Art Soiree the t-shirts will be up for auction along with lots of other art from other kids in the school. There is also art available to buy from local artists.

Here is my tie-dying Google Drawing which shows the process and a few designs I like. Here are the links that are on the drawing as they aren't working.

Circus Argument Writing

Over the past 2 weeks Aimee and I have been working on an argument about animals in circus acts. I found this quite fun to do. I liked how we got to research some facts and then add them into our writing! Here is a link to another blog post of mine which shows what an argument should include.

Term 3 Week 4 Maths Workbook

This week for our maths workbook we have been focusing on word problems/using strategies to solve equations. I found this quite easy but also very fun as I quite like solving word problems.

Maths Workbook - Wk3 T3 2018

This week the topic for our workbook was 3D Shapes. I found this kind of easy and fun - I liked learning the different shapes that I have never heard of before. I also liked finding out what the different shapes are used for/in (like a Toblerone chocolate bar being a triangular prism).

This week we have been busy finishing off our hydroponics system that we have set up at our school. We have it all ready to plant the strawberries on Monday. Here is a photo of what we have achieved so far.

For maths this week we have been focusing on probability. Today we did an activity where Miss Power put cubes (we didn't know the colours) into a bag. There were around 4-10 cubes in the bag each round. She pulled out cubes around 10 times. We had to record which ones came out. Then we had to guess how many of the different colours there were in the bag. Next we had to record an overall view of how many times they came out. For eg. Blue - 10/20 - 1/2 - 50%.

This year I have been selected to go to the annual Westamaths competition held in Hokitika. I am in a team with 3 other people. This week we have had a few practices preparing for the competition next Wednesday.
