Shantytown Reflection

On Thursday M2 and M1's year 6's went to Shantytown Heritage Park to learn about law and order. When we arrived in Shantytown, Miss Barber was telling us about the rules and expectations. Then we walked to the church, put our bags down under the trees and went in sat in the pews.  Miss Barber and Mrs Meyers then told us a bit about the behaviour punishments in the 1800’s. Then we went to get changed into olden day outfits. After that we split into boys and girls and the boys went to the holographic theatre while the girls had their morning tea and had a little explore around the old town. Then after about 10 minutes we switched around. In the holographic theatre we watched a clip called 'Dead Men Tell No Tales'. During the clip we all got sprayed with water. Then we went on a steam train ride. While we were on the steam train the driver said that he had been given a bag of gold. When we got back from the ride a man with a gun came and stole our gold and Miss Barber's fobwatch. He then told us to go back into the church where we started describing him to tell the constable so that he could find him. A couple of us went with Miss Barber to go and find the constable. We then split up into groups to go and track down the thief. We found him in the saloon drinking! The constable then decided that it was him and took him to the jail.
Then it was lunchtime where we had lunch and had another wander around. After lunch we did a role play about law and order where Jane Symonds got questioned about stealing Owen Wright's fobwatch. In the end we found out that Jane Symonds was actually innocent and that Owen Wright was just a drunk.

We had an excellent day out there with role plays, learning about the past and dressing up!!!!!!!!!
