Literacy Reflection W9 T2

This week for word work we looked at strong words that we are going to use in our speech. We looked at the most important topic words. 

This week we are preparing for our speeches that we are going to present next term. 

For reading Miss Reissmann gave us a short story called 'Mrs Wilding's Potatoes'. When we had finished reading the story, she shared a slide with us where we had to write at least one main point each.

Meaning:
A sports arena
Sentence:
The new rugby stadium in town has very flash lighting and seats.
Origin:
Middle English, Greek, Latin

Game
Meaning:
Entertainment or something that a person plays
Sentence:
The rugby game against Hurricanes and British and Irish Lions was tied.
Origin:
Middle English, Old English



Super Rugby
Meaning:
A rugby competition where teams from around the world play each other in different places
Sentence:
Five rugby teams are all in the Super Rugby competition.

Sick
Meaning:
Not well
Sentence:
My sister was very sick so she couldn’t come to the Hurricanes, Crusaders game.
Origin:
Middle English, Old English

Tickets
Meaning:
A piece of paper or card that admits you to go somewhere or to watch something
Sentence:
You have you buy tickets to go to a performance or a sports game.
Origin:
Middle French

Crusaders
Meaning:
A Super Rugby team that comes from Christchurch
Sentence:
The Crusaders are a Super Rugby team from Christchurch.
Origin:
Spanish

Hurricanes
Meaning:
A Super Rugby team that comes from Wellington
Sentence:
The Hurricanes are a Super Rugby with lots of good players in it like Beauden & Jordie Barrett.
Origin:
Taino, Spanish

Rugby
Meaning:
A rough sports game that includes tackling and running with a ball
Sentence:
Rugby is a sport that mostly boys play.


Reading 
  • Corban is Mrs Wilding’s great nephew. R.B
  • Corban saw Liam and Jordan at Mrs Wilding’s house. R.B

    I am looking forward to hearing your Rugby Experience speech filled with all those strong words. Remember to try and get the audience interested by using humour or interesting facts or comments. For the reading activity, maybe you could have added the slide so we knew what you had to comment on.
